    Bare bottom all the way

I have had a bare bottom tank for a little over a year now and I will never go back.

    - easy to keep clean
    - more flow
    - better snail survivability
    - more space for corals ( in the process of creating an acan garden in my tank right now)

I painted the bottom panel of my tank white and It give the tank a really nice look until the bottom is fully covered

While this can be true.Dead spots(anaerobic areas) are where most dentrification occurs.Definitely not a bad thing. As long as the aquarist doesn't disturb the SB they are safe ime.The deeper the bed the more carefull you need to be and a crash can occur.I never disturb my sb except the very top layer.:)

Easier to keep detritus out because you can see it.
Sand traps all kinds of nasties which you can of course vacuum but easier said than done. Especially in caves and up against rocks in a deep tank.

Vinny, I totally agree. However, if you have had three moves like I have had, after the first two nightmares of a sand bed disturbed, the third move with no sand bed was a dream

I like a sandbed, a small one. It just looks natural.

I have seen bare bottom...everything gathers there andvis noticeable.

    Its personal preference I think.
