Which barracuda species? Salt/freshwater? The real barracuda is a big saltwater fish, but there's a couple other freshwater fish (the common one being the red tail barracuda) with the same common name that don't get nearly as big but look similar.

No responsible fish store would sell saltwater barracudas unless they were special ordered by a customer they knew to have a gigantic tank and a marine bio degree. They're 5+ feet long, and almost a foot wide.

I seriously hope your store didn't get real barracudas, but the red tails, which are 9ish inches and aren't too hard to care for.

Tankmates would be none or other extremely large aggressive fish. Diet is meat and as was mentioned earlier hands. :)

please excuse wrong words, I posted this from my phone that auto "corrects."

Yeah, the red tails look pretty much exactly like a real barracuda.

Red Tail Barracuda, closely related to Tetras and Piranhas. Their tail is red, but usually it's very lightly colored, barely noticeable.

    vs

    Great Barracuda
