I knew this one! but Karma to you for doing your own research

was looking forward to telling you about the fact that base rock becomes live rock after a period of time in your tank, so no need to waste to much money on rock
some live rock added to a majority base rock tank, helps seed coralline so its nice to have a bit.

Not a waste of a thread or a stupid question!!!!
Glad you found the answer to the question and also, if their are others in the same boat as you, you have helped them out with the base rock dilemma!
Base rock is normally rock that has recently been added to seed or doesn't really have a nice diversity of life in and in the rock itself and the coloration of the rock is normally bland. However, this rock can become very colorful and teeming with life in due time as cured and uncured rock from various locales!

if it was found in a basement and was not exposed to any potential chemical contamination, then I reckon your Ok with it

Funny enough I just decided to try base rock yesterday. The lady @ the LFS told me to soak it for 24 hours and drop it in. Which I'm in the process of doing.

Should I expect any side effects? Like this ph raise?

The rock was sitting in a box for sale.
