I don't worry about the tank during power outages during the summer really. However, during the winter I can't sleep without it hooked up to my heater and return pump.

not saying that the one you selected won't do the job, but you get what you pay for.

Mine is discontinued. The equivalent is roughly $700. I highly recommend APC to anyone looking for a UPS. It has been a while since I looked at UPS systems, so I honestly can't help you with the one you selected.

I'm starting to think that apc has had some quality control issues over the years.

Never-mind on the one I mentioned. It only runs for a whole 13 minutes on a half load, that being 2 or 3 plugs. I need something that would last at least 2 hours up to a day if it got really bad. ugh.

How exactly do you know that?

My power is very stable. Never any outages. If there is one power is back within an hour. Of course, accidents do happen, cars hit poles and transformers, brown out in Summer... who knows.

Point is, I changed out my service once and the power was out for 8 hours. The fish were breathing hard at the end but were fine. And I had nothing running for them. So I know I can make it 8 hours. In the Winter I would need a heater.

Now for bigger stuff like ice storms and hurricanes and tornado.... (don't happen here) then you really need a generator for power for a couple few days. I don't have one and would be screwed.

Point is you really need to look at what your power needs dictate. then you need to know how long you can go and what you really need to run, then you need to buy a UPS that will be sized right. If you live in a area prone to natural disasters and have thousands of dollars inversted in livestock, then $500-$800 for a generator is not out of the question. Just depends.

You won't easily find one that will last a whole day on a ~60 watt load, which is fairly reasonable for 1 small pump and a heater in slightly-below room temperature conditions.

I didn't mean a UPS specifically, but a battery back-up. If I have the option to go a few hours with power, or no power & my tank on the line(fish breathing heavily/ had corals to care for, etc), I would get a back-up(if I could afford it). I guess I am just a very cautious person..

The one I was looking at, which I won't be getting, didn't have a screen at all. It was simply a power source. I also don't have $700 to spend...
