I acquired a UPS... don't know the rating... not sure how good the battery is. It's a few years old and it is not high powered. Enought to run a powerhead though. I just need to plug it in. I really do not worry about it too much. I should, I spent a lot on coral lately and my tank is not the same as when I changed my service out.

I've got a small APC. I have my ATO, Autodoser plugged into it.

If the power is out for like an hour, then it's just cool those things don't get out of wack.

Back in Ike, we were without power for several days. With the backups (I have 2), I could run a pump for an hour a few times a day breaking the surface.

Temp isn't an issue in Houston as far as a heater goes (particularly when we're prone to power outages). Cooling is an altogether separate problem in that situation.

    I didn't have any issues.

Well, some weren't happy I wasn't using the batteries for fans (for us), but nobody believed they'd only last a few hours tops and the overall better use was to fan the fish and coral ... ::)

for less than $300 you can run your tank as much as you need to in a power outage as long as u can get gasoline...and dont mind pissing off the neighborhood..lol I have a bigger one at my house that I bought off craigslist that was like brand new and works like a champ even tho its pretty loud...i dont care if my neighbors would be upset...my tank is more important! :)

The generator is probably my best bet. Especially at that cost. P'ing off the neighbors won't be a problem. They are annoying and always have music blaring so loud it shakes the windows in our house. -.-

I can't find anything nearly that low price at Lowe's online. lol. We don't have a Home Depot near by. I'll have to go to the store and take a look.

Not everyone can use a genny where they live. I.E. apartment complexes. If you have the ability to use a genny, go with the genny over a UPS.
