I finally have a little extra money

So I'm going down the list of things that I might need in a fishy emergency, living in so. Florida we get a lot of power outages.

What battery bubbler do you have or suggest? And what other emergency items do you keep in your arsenal

A few years back I had moved into a newer house in a subdivision which was not within city limits. I had problems with power outages several times a year for a number of reasons. I was so paranoid when I first set up my tank years ago that I went and bought a gas powered generator. Of course I explained to my wife that it would keep our refrigerator & freezer running as well as a few lights or fans in the event of an emergency. But actually.... it was insurance for my tank! Funny thing is that since I bought the generator we have not had any outages that have lasted for more than 1 hour. Depending on how expensive or big of an investment you are putting at risk it may be something to consider.

How much extra are we talking here?

Personally a battery back up system would be awesome. In the event of a bad power outage I just take the battery out of my car and hook it up to an inverter that I use to run a couple pumps.

Personally I don't like air pumps on saltwater tanks unless they are contained like in a skimmer or something. They just make too big of a mess IMO.

I would consider a good UPS, one that will run a return pump and powerhead for hours is under $100. You dont need it for lights, chillers, heaters, etc... unless you have a multi day power problem, then you need a generator anyways.

Otherwise, any battery powered pump will do ok in a pinch...
