I have a 3" picasso trigger and have been feeding him frozen mysis. I had these scallops in the freezer and was wondering if these would be good fir him too.

I fed my fish a blend of stuff from the fresh seafood counter and asian market. It's a good way to save money.

I don't think I'd feed bagged anything. There is going to be some kind of preservative in it IMO and that can lead to seriously frustrating problems.

I go through a bag of scallops like that every two weeks. The triggers go crazy when it's scallop day.

Not all has preservatives. If it lists just "Bay Scallops" under ingredients, you can use it. If there is something else in there, I wouldn't use it.

Some of our fresh fish out on ice is also flash frozen with a preservative added. We do the best we can. I'm lucky in that I have a pier just down the road to get the daily catch, but I still freeze it in hopes of killing off parasites and nasties.

Ingredients are: scallops and sodium tripolyphosphate... Sounds like a preservative to me!

sounds like a head ache to me. At the very least rocket fuel for algae.

Sodium triphosphate - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

    * oops missed the "poly" but if you google either triphosphate and tripolyphosphate they are nearly the same.

Ya, it's a salt and is found in many fish products... even those fresh ones at the counter.

My immediate family works in the fishery both on the ocean side of it and the land side of it. Most of the fish at the deli has salt. Fresh fish destined to be sold within a day doesn't necessarily get it. I personally wouldn't buy fish that is "fresh", is older than a day and not preserved.

It's flash frozen on the surface, not marinated in it.

Places like World Market and Sun harvest have 100% perservative free fish, and you PAY for it. Assume all other fish has it unless otherwise advertised and rinse accordingly.

I believe most scallops have it, but there are brands that don't.
