Are the stock power heads ok, or do most people recommend upgrading. Is there a formula to figure out how much flow that is needed for a specific size tank or amount of LR. Thanks

Add the gph values for all pumps and powerheads, then divide by the total volume of water in your tank for the turnover rate.

Your projected livestock will determine how much flow you need.

For FO or FOWLR, 10x - 20x is sufficient.
For soft and LPS corals, 20x - 30x is good.
For SPS, 50x will work, but more is better. Some have over 100x in their tanks.

Thanks, the bc 29 booklet says 266 each pump. I guess thats why people upgrade. Do power heads alone increase this flow, or are better pumps needed. Thanks, as you can tell, I am new.
