I was told a long time ago if you don't have a test kit for it, don't dose it. That being said stop dosing and do a water change asap. Do you have any water made up?

ohhh this looks very bad! honestly you will have to do a water change immediately to try and save whatever you can.
Iodine is actually lethal to most organisms at high enough concentration. Dosing for it is not required and IMO is not needed even in tanks with a large demand for it.

Dosing iodine is a waste of good money. I bought the test kit tested the tank it read 0.0.
So i dosed it for over a year and never did get above 0.2 for a day. Do water changes and put the bottle in the trash.

Hi there- sounds like youre dosing with iodine (lugols?) and not iodide.

Iodine is not the ion corals are utilizing, instead iodine decomposes into iodate and iodide. Iodide is an essential element for many corals, especially LPS and Softies, however iodate can be incredibly toxic into a tank. If dosing regularly, make sure to use an iodide supplement and not an iodine suppliment. In a tank with a lot of life, it is indeed a challenge to raise and maintain iodide levels to 0.03 ppm (or .3, cant remember where the decimal drops off the top of my head) however if you dose with an appropriate suppliment you will see a noticeable difference in the growth rates of many of your corals, especially zoas, mushrooms, and other softies.

If youve been dosing with iodine, a large water change would be advised along with running some extra activated carbon in the short time, allow the tank to settle out, and then look into dosing with a good iodide suppliment if you find your tank is deficient in iodide levels.

    Hope thats a little help!

Never dose anything you're not testing for... knowing the proper level helps a lot, too.

FWIW, the iodine level in NSW is 0.064 PPM.

I had a LFS guy try that one on me. His line was, "If you think it's being used, then dose it". I stopped going to that LFS...

When I lived in Florida (Vero), I didn't bother testing or dosing anything. I'd collect water from a secluded beach at full high tide and do large water changes. Wish I still had that luxury...
