I am a newbie to fish and started with a Betta. Since the last time I changed his water he has acquired a bent back and will not eat normally. He startles easily and has been trying to stay in one place if at all possible. I change his water normally and the temperature is fine. I feed him a combination of 'betta bites' and blood worms. Is there anything I can do to keep this fish alive, maybe a change in diet? (I know this can't be good).

Kevin has been with me over a year now and I hate to lose him.

    Thanks.
    S.

Make sure that when you change his water that you are treating it with some sort of tap water conditioner. Also, make sure that you are not overfeeding. You don't need to feed him every day. What is the temperature in his bowl like?

I change his water with store-bought water (the tap water where I live is terrible). The temperature in the bowl is room temp. I think I might be overfeeding him, I have been feeding him twice a day, a little bit each time. Could that cause a bent back?
