Just wondering what you would think has been your best and worst purchases you have made for your aquarium.

I know there are probably lots for most of us but the ones that come to mind for me are

Best : Auto top up. Dont know how I got buy for so long without one, the last few years my atu has helped stabilise my systems more than I could have hoped

Worst: Dragon Wrasse. Bought him as a juvenile a few years ago, demolished the tank, threw frags and crabs and snails around for fun. Had to strip the whole system down to get it out, nightmare lol

    so what yours....?

The best purchase I have made so far is my 55g tank. The reason is it got me started in this wonderful hobby.

The worst thing I have purchased so far is my 55g tank, lol. I am totally addicted to this hobby, and I got a tank that can't be drilled for overflows.

The best is a tie between the Spectrapure UPLC-II ATO system and the AI Sol Blue LED lighting systems. The worst is either the Seaclone skimmer or the Sand Sifting Star I bought against everyones advice not to. My bad but you learn from your mistakes hopefully. Once it wiped out every living spaghetti worn, baby snail and pod in my 5"-6" 330 lb Southdown DSB it starved. The DSB has never been the same since.

Best: Mr. Fister the N. wennerae. Over the years I have had quite a few stomatopods but Mr. Fister was the first.

Worst: birdsnest SPS. Yeah I had no idea what I was doing, and my tank could no way support SPS. They died in about a week.

Best: My sump. My 55g 1.0 had no sump, only HOB. I hated seeing everything in the back of the tank, skimmer filter intake, crappy hob skimmer intake, heater. A total eye sore. My second would be my my ATO. That thing has flooded my basement a couple times, but the positives far out weigh the negatives on that.

Worst: Serpent Star. I thought it was really cool when I bought it and it was about 1/2 dia disc, but it grew and grew. About 2 inch dia disc it began eating everything in my tank. Had no idea that was what was happening to my fish until i saw that sucker grab my yellow tank and start eating it. Back the LFS it went.

Best: SCA 303 skimmer - that thing is a beast for the money and they have great customer service. Aquaripure nitrate filter - finally helped me beat that nasty bryopsis. :)

Worst: Kent marine reef carbon that was on recall - bleached every SPS in my tank. :(
