I'm interested to hear from folks who've used these on large tanks. What are my best choices for good water movement in a 550 gal SPS tank. Closed Loop is not an option at this point. Results are a bigger concern than cost. I will probably have a controller at some point (maybe profilux if I'm lucky)

The vortech mp40s should handle it easily(2 or 3). You can adjust your flow rate to your liking. They come with wireless controllers also.

Look at the seio prop pumps. the biggest for now do 1500 gph. Otherwise, there are the std seios, and the big Korallias, but if you price out gph per dollar, you will be hard pressed to beat the seio prop pumps, especially since they are on sale for under 50 dollars.
The vortechs and tunzes are nice, but pricey.

For 350 dollars you can get a Polario that does 55gph, has a built in adjustable wave maker function, has night mode, and comes witha magnet mount that will work up to 3/4" thickness of tank.

third mp40's but i think you would need at least 4. Tunze's are always an option too, very nice option.

If you are planning on adding a controller later I would skip the Koralias because they may have problems coming on and off a lot. Also skip the Vortechs and save some money. I would look at modded maxis they will work well with a wave controller or possibly tunzes but I think they carry a pretty high price tag too.

If money is not an issue though I would get the MP40s.

Does anybody have first hand experience with the Polario powerheads? I had been looking into them as well but have yet to see them running in person.
