Well, I've got some algae...not too bad, but since I added a couple fish I've noticed my sand really getting a good dose of algae. I have a few nassarius snails in my 58 gallon tank, but am looking for something else to help out. I heard sand sifting starfish are good, but what kind are those actually and would they help out?

    Here's my current CUC:

    3 blue legged hermits
    3 red legged hermits
    3 nassarius snails
    2 turbo snails
    2 emerald crabs

I agree, John will help you out with what you need. I just emailed him for my tank and he has Florida Ceriths listed as great sand bed cleaners.

nassarius are supposed to be basically useless as they are carnivores, they also decimate fauna in your sandbed like sand stars do.

I would get a sea cucumber for real sand cleaning.

I've got a black atlantic and a tigertail in my 200g, but they were both in the 90g previously.

I got a couple sandsifting stars today. They are actually really cool and come out of the sand every once in a while too. They look pretty cool at night under my moonlights. I just hope they do a good job in the sand. My phosphates had been high because the tank was recently moved. I got them under control now.

ohhhh.. you need to feed them somehow or they will die. a hundred gallon tank can support one sand star.

if you see them out of the sand alot that means they are running out of food.

Is that true? If so, I can give my buddy one. He's got a 120 gallon. That's the problem with the LFS...sometimes they have no idea.
