Hey I recently got a new tank and it came with a 10g sump. It will be used on a 65g. I am wondering what would be the best design and which methods are more efficient. It came with the white sock but I also have bio balls. There are no dividers in the sump currently but I am considering putting some in. I do have an in sump skimmer that will take up some space. Any ideas would be great. Thanks!

I would avoid using the bioballs, they can cause nitrate issues unless you clean them religiously.

Using the sock is OK but it must be cleaned very often.

Nothing goes into the sock. It only filter small particles of crap that are usually floating around in the water. Just put one of the drains in there and it will work at cleaning particles out. If you have a fuge, design your plumbing in a way that "unfiltered" water falls in the refugium.

PS: I only put the sock on if the water has too many small particles floating around. Generally I don't even use them. It's been 4 months since the last time my sump wore socks ;)
