Thanks! I will definatly look into it. There are just so many skimmers out there any they all say they do the same thing so I love to know that there are some that you guys like better. Also where did you get yours and about how much didit cost you? Thank you so much!

I had a Remora Aqua C on my old 55g and it worked great. I ended up getting a sump and just hung it on the edge of the sump. I modified mine to a larger pump and was getting bubbles back in the water so I added a sump then I didn't have to worry about bubbles.

But you are basically running mechanical filtration competing with your LR. DeNitrate sponges, PhosGuard are all unnecessary with good husbandry practises and LR
So your second Wet/Dry your using as a wave maker?

Well, the trick is I have almost no LR in my tank! Other thing is the filtration capacity of LR. Although LR is porous, the biologically active surface of LR is nothing compared to highly specialized filtration media, such as polished glass beads. My wet/dry filter is just a redundant unit. Just in case I would have too big biological load!

...the debate continues.

I have always used a filter of some sorts, always will. Unless you have a ton of money to drop in to a huge skimmer, liverock is not enough alone.

Well up until 2 months ago, I was running my 370G tank on a skimmer rated for a 75G.
I have 300lbs of Fuji LR and no other source of filtration. I;ve never had a problem with nitrates and I feed my fish very well.
I guess a mechanical filter can not hurt, but if you are just setting up a system and were wondering where to spend your money. The last place I'd recommend would be on a filter. I'd either spend extra on the skimmer or LR

Thanks for all of the replies! I will def. get a good skimmer and probably go with another emperor since I am so familiar with them.

Ok so I found a used AquaC Remora. The seller says he has a Maxi Jet 1200 and a Rio 1400 and says I pick which pump I want. The seller says that the Rio produces a lot more skimmate then the maxi jet 1200. Is there any reason I don't want the Rio that you guys can think of? Thanks a bunch!
