What other corals do you have in your tank?

SPS and leathers do NOT get along. Carbon must be run at all times if they are mixed, for most species of SPS. Green Star Polyps and Yellow polyps are both very aggressive and kill most SPS.

If you have softies, leathers, and LPS, then you need a fairly easy to keep coral, that is fairly aggressive and holds it own. I would go with either a Poccilopora or Stylopora. These both are aggressive enough to hold their own against most polyps that touch them, but not so much to take out the tank.

Stylophoras are hardy and grow rapidly for SPS. They also don't require as much light. A 4X24W T5HO would let you grow anything you want in your 20 long.

I got a monti digitata that is growing like a weed. I keep breaking pieces off and gluing em to the rock its on and now its a tangled mess of coral lol. I had an acropora come in contact with it and it seems to have fended it off pretty well too.

montipora are great for new sps keepers

Pocillopora are really easy to keep and even easier to keep colored. However, an old salt that I learned a lot from would always say that pocillopora will eventually destroy a reef tank b/c they always like to spawn in captivity. These corals have a really strong sting.

I wouldn't loose any sleep over having pocillopora corals in your system though. :)

wow... lots of help thanks all! I think I'm leaning toward montipora digi, montipora capri, and stylophora as first three.

As I said it's going to be an SPS only tank with live rock, no fish and no softies in this tank. probably a 30 gallon breeder tank with 4X36 inch T-5 lights and a sump fuge plus two or three power heads in the DT.

One other question... what should I be feeding this tank since there won't be any fish and to create particles of food for the corals. OR

would it be better to have one or two very reef safe fish to balance it out?

    Anyone?

    Thanks!

depends on the corals in there, small particulate food. Like cyclopeeze, oyster eggs, maybe amino acids.

I know you don't want fish but maybe you should consider one small one, since corals are supposed to grow better with them in there.
