what would the best combination of goby and pistol shrimp be, i have heard they can have good relationships if paired correctly

    other 55g tank inhabitants are:
    large 4+ clarkii clown
    coral banded shrimp
    5 emerald crabs
    porcilin crab
    sally lightfoot
bunch of red legs and blue legs
    bunch of assorted snails
i plan on ordering a flame hawkfish
    40lbs live rock
    40lbs live sand

    thank you for your time

Not a good match for your coral banded shrimp.

I agree with Marlin. G/P pairs are my favorite, but I'd definitely remove the CBS if you would like him to remain alive :(

That being said, you only really have a few pistol shrimp options. Randall's and Tiger.
The bullseye PS will usually not pair, and often kill their goby.

^ and there are your gobies that CAN pair with a pistol. Note, not all do 100% of the time.

I don't know much about goby and shrimp combinations, however, I do know that you DO NOT want to place a Flame Hawkfish in your tank with all of those inverts!!!!!! Flame will eat them!

Get a longnose Hawk instead. They don't have that big a mouth.
They do however jump so make sure he does not jump out of the top of your tank.

Also most pistol/Goby pairs to not stay together once moved to a new home.

Pistols actively hunt other shrimp. Great for removing unwanted Mantis shrimp but....
