I was using a RedSea Max Priszm which was garbage and now I have an Aqua C Remora which has pulled more gunk from my tank in 2 weeks than my other skimmer pulled all of last year! My vote is Aqua C Remora

I used a CPR backpac on a 55 for a month or two (just as a temporary skimmer) and it could not keep up with 2 tangs, 2 damsels, 2 clowns and a wrasse. I'd advise against the backpac2, since the design is the same, etc. I had a Coralife 125 HOB on the 55 and that worked great for the bioload, but sold it since I was upgrading. Coldshot bought it and used it for a while on his 55, and now he's upgrading to an in-sump skimmer - so I think he may be selling it again. I also heard the turboflotor is a good HOB skimmer, but I've never used one before so can't tell you from experience.

I would not run a CPR personally.
I would say either the Aqua C or a Reef Octopus.

I did change skimmers for a short time Eric but had a girlfriend over for the night and her teenage brat was camped out on the living room floor and got up before we did and dumped two 16 ounce bottles of different types of live phyto culture (helping me dose the tank) so I have a bad LH algae problem and for two days the other skimmer tried to clear up the really bad cloudiness in the tank but couldnt hang I put the Coralife 125 super skimmer back on line and the tank was clean in about two hours...so that would be my personal choice and it is going in the sump as soon as get me an overflow box to work with or just do a valve on it to regulate the flow as the pump I have cant keep up with the return pump (1400 GPH) The Remora is also a pretty good skimmer (word of mouth...reliable source)....

    **AquaC Remora Pro
    **Octopus BH-300F

Danny, your tank has the worst of luck with house guests. Glad to hear the ol skimmer cleared it up that quick. There's not much of chance the skimmer would hang for too long with the sailfin tang and other fish I'll be adding later to the 180.
So I guess this guy has plenty of choices and testimonies for HOB skimmers to go with for now. Let's hope he doesn't ask about getting a jebo or sea clone. ;D
