So I am in the need of a new light my mh's are dying. I had been doing a ton of research on every brand out there. My top 3 choices were Orphek, Maxspect, and Aquaitic Illumination, and ordering from rapid led.
Well the cost for me to build an equivelant unit is almost comparible to these companiesso thats out of the question. When comparing the 3 other companies the maxspect falls behind even though it boosts the 4 15 watt leds. I was looking at the Sol's from aquatic Illumination and they are nice, but the PAR and Pur levels of the Orphek 156 are way better making it a no brainer.
So I am going with the 2 orphek 156's for my 48x24x24.
    My question is which ones?
    I currently have a 2 250w mh's at 20k
    2 55w pc at 10k
and 6 leds that are blue, terrible quality.
What configuration would i need. I like the blue look of the 20k so I would obviously aim to go in this direction, and secondly what improvements do the uv lights add, i saw you had this option

No, I know about rapid led and was viewing their stuff, the leds are good but the drivers and wiring and everything else you get is not the best, Orphek described it well. Why use top of the line bulbs with bottom of the line drivers and housings and parts. On top of that the special leds used by orphek have a much better par and pur reading than those cree leds at RapidLED. RapidLEd makes good lights, but if im gonna spend 1000 bucks on lighting, i have no problem spending an extra 500 on top of that to get that much better of a product.

Looking at the par reading of a setup i do from rapid will give me a par reading of roughly 100-125 at 24 inches away.

The orphek will give me one of 600-650 at 24 inches away.

    Thats a 6x improvement.

is the orphek measured through water or air? 600-650 is a heck of a lot and i think that would burn out most coral. sps i heard thrive in par of like 100-150.

Somewhere between 100-200ish yes. Orphek is a lighting company trying to get you to buy their products, I would listen to actual reviews. The OCREEF CREE XPE LED looks promising.

The rapid led kits are really good and I have seen amazing tanks that use the rapid led kits. I would recommend them to everyone. Look at this video, this guys tank is what made me buy from rapid led.

I agree 100%. I myself have boosled (and love it), and i have seen rapid led par38's in action, as well as aqua illumination Sol. all are great products, and i would strongly consider a custom rapid kit for most aplications.

But does it matter? If it doesn't, you save a lot of money.

A lot of people around me are using the Aqua Illuminations fixtures on really nice tanks. By nice tanks, I mean tanks literally full of LE corals, like Tyree and Jason Fox stuff.
