I want to upgrade my lighting on my 90 but my canopy only allows for 4 inches above the water. I have heard that this is too close for MH but am not sure. Im also tight on cash as many of you know. I want to keep softies and LPS. canopy is 60x18

A retrofit T5 kit is a great choice when ample space is not an option :)

Defiantly T-5, aquacave has some pretty good deals on retro-kits, I'm getting all my new T-5 retro's from there.

You could do MH, but you would need a full splash guard on your reflectors. Not to mention the heat issues it would cause being that low.

T5 retros would be my vote.

hey Patrick you can fit at least 6 T5 lamps with individual reflectors across an 18 wide tank so you would be good for most species of coral with that option IMO
