Going to be purchasing a nano tank this week and want to do a yasha goby and pistol shrimp pair.

So my question is... What is the best pistol shrimp to get with a yasha goby? tiger? randalls? red or green? Not really sure about these guys, any links or just info would be great!

It is going to be just the 2 of them in the tank, and a bunch of soft corals and lps.

Will sand be ok? I really don't like crushed coral but if the pistol needs that then i will get it.

Any advice or tips on these guys?

I'm a fan of tiger pistols, personally. I have one paired with my YWG in my nano. I've never kept a yasha, but I'd assume they'll get along just as well.

Sand will be fine, likely preferable. It's pretty interesting to watch them landscaping. If you use sand, you'll see them use their claws to scoop the sand and push it around like a tiny aquatic bulldozer. Just be prepared for your pristine aquascape to be completely demolished and redesigned in a day or two. And make sure your rocks are well secured, they tend to tunnel under everything.

with goby/pistols I personally would ensure that you have a pair prior to buying them. Dont try to buy them seperatly. Go ahead and spend the little bit extra money and get them paired up.

Sand is actually the best for them. I love the yashi! Cool little fish.

If you have any on the sand bed, they're doomed. They will never stay where you want them and/or end up burried.

I just moved all of my zoa frags onto the lowest part of my rockwork, they haven't budged an inch since.

I've seen pairs on DD from time to time.

Other than that, I'd just keep checking LFS's. I've heard pistols don't ship well, but I've never had an invert shipped, so I'm not sure how true that is - mine seems pretty hardy to me.

reefs2go.com has the tigers for $15! i think my lfs wanted like $40
And the yasha is 40. So $55 is not bad.
