Ideally someone knows a plac locally in Houston, but a national chain recommendation helps. HD and Lowes don't show anything for John Guest on their websites.

Lowes and HD will have standard 1/4" John Guest style fittings such as tees, couplers. 1/4" MIPx1/4" tube, 90 degree elbows and maybe a few others in the plumbing section near the kitchen faucets and such. Usually on the wall on a pegboard type rack with samples shown above.

They both usually have them near the tubing section also. Most fittings are about 3 bucks but the shut off valves are about 7 where I'm at.

On a side note I'm still trying to figure out what size tap I need. Last one I picked up is a 1/2"-20 thread which works but still alters the thread a little.

What is it you are trying to tap for? NPT or pipe tapered pipe threads are different than NC or NF bolt and screw threads which do not have a taper. Its the taper that allows pipe pittings to tighten up and seal, standard bolt or screw threads would just bottom out and not seal, this is why you cannot use the threads on the outside of a bulkhead fitting for pipe fittings. The exterior threads are a straight screw thread and have no taper and are slightly different thread pattern.

If you are threading for a pipe fitting youn need 1/2" NPT.

Just random stuff. Buckets for ro/di water and such. Not a lot of people even thread stuff anymore. My local hd and lowes don't even sell taps anymore. I've heard people say they drill a smaller hole and they thread themselves but I don't buy it.

The wall thickness of a bucket etc isn't thick enough to tap threads in. I made homemade bulkheads for my buckets and my 23G Rubbermaid ATO storage. Used a 3/4" or 1" male adapter and garden hose gasket or O ring on the inside and a threaded coupling or threaded ball valve on the outside. Been working drip tight for almost 5 years now. Did the same thing on one of those Rubbermaid rooling ice chest/coolers I have that the drain leaked on, been holding much better now.
