Best Power head for the money!

FWIW, I ran two WP40's on my 125 for about 8 months. The flow was ok, the pumps were dead silent. However both motors died between 8-9 months. I bought replacement motors for them, but in the meantime I found someone selling two MP40's. I have had those running for I think 6 months now. I much prefer the wider spread of flow from them, the controllability, and the smaller footprint in the tank. They are certainly noisier than the WP40s, however they are only noticeable when above 80%. I have found they are actually a lot quieter than the two MP10's I run on my 50 gallon tank.

So bottom line is, I think you made a fine choice

 

Nice! I just bought a pair of the Jebao RW-20's. I'm going to let them ride for six months or so and upgrade to these. Keep us posted on how they work and how "quiet" they are. My Jebao's are basically silent except in W1 mode when the impeller stops and starts back up abruptly you can hear it, but not really an issue at all.

 

Great choice. One nice thing about the Vortech is even 5 years down the road you should be able to get 70% of your money back if you sold them. I've bought all mine used and could sell them for what I paid at any time. If any thing fails on them they have a parts list on the ecotech website down to the propellers and nuts/bearings.
Expensive stuff doesn't always work out and sometimes cheap stuff does work out.
I really liked Koralias. Silent but he higher flow ones are huge. Just a personal choice.

I bought my first mp40w es online and thought about canceling order because of the price, what was I thinking, $1200 for a pair with battery back up??? The ones that I was using were $100 each, and a wave maker controller... How could I let the hype let me spend over 1k on wave makers. Glad I just let it come in I saw the reselling prices and figured I could get close to what I paid for them... My debate was between one mp60 and the pair of 40's. Went with the 40s and don't keep them on full power, ended up picking up another set used incase I need them...

I do recommend getting an additional wet end, they are tough to clean without soaking, otherwise tank will be running without any extra water movement. I try to do one every other week.

 

They can be noisy, if not lined up correctly or spacing/ glass thickness isn't correct. Once in a while you will hear a clicking from across the room... Snails do end up finding their way in and not out.

 

I just dropped in 2 MP40's into my tank recently and I wouldn't trade them for anything else. They work so amazing with my Apex controller!

Forum: good morning TGIF !

Well I'm finally ready for the new setup and while mocking up the system had some ideas I wanted to ask the forum for the new build. I purchased the reef savvy 20" ghost overflow which consist of (3x) 1.5 in bulkheads for drainage to the sump. I'm thinking of using 1.5in Thread Hose x 1.in Slip Reducing Vacuum Hose Cuff in black to connect the flex hose leading to the sump. my question is does anyone use a similar setup for their plumbing?

I have attached pictures of what I plan to do and would appreciate any feedback.
