Now that I have a Reefkeeper Lite, I am wondering what are the best powerheads to use. I have two Koralia 425s right now alternating every 15 minutes, but my 750 has some issues running in reverse. I heard powerheads like Koralias aren't really made to be used with wavemakers (not sure how much truth is to that). Is there a better powerhead to use when turning on and off multiple times an hour with a wavemaker?

the korrali evos are okay, but I've had trouble with mine starting in reverse. I have been researching the Sicces. They tend to be very good pumps, although, I have not used their powerheads. The powerheads are designed to be run on a such a wavemaker though and advertised not to run in reverse. They are a bit more than the korralis, but not bad if they last longer.

    Something like this:
Sicce Voyager 4 High Flow Water Pump, Powerhead, 1,600 GPH - AquaCave

I just saw a magazine ad for these and they looked promising. I may get my hands on a Wavemaster Pro, but either way, these would fit the bill. Thanks

The Koralia Evolutions are designed to be used with a controller, the old K series are not. If the 750 is a Evo, contact Hydor customer service for replacement parts, it is guaranteed and should not start backwards. They are very good about fixing this issue.

I tried Sicce Voyagers before the present Evolutions and was not thrilled. The power consumption was over twice as much, they are about twice as big and the mounting bracket is a PITA. Every time you touch it the powerhead falls off and blows sand everywhere, then it takes two hands to get it installed again.

Have to agree with this one. I had the evos on mine, before I ran the vortech, and Hydor sent out replacement parts immediately. The only thing I didn't like is that the Koralias don't have a very large water pull radius. Its like 2 inches around the impeller housing, and so you have to place them very carefully to get the most out of them.

How about the Tunzes then? I've heard good things about them. I did score the Wavemaster Pro too!

After finally taking the plunge into Vortech's...I have to say that is the best, hands down. After that would be Koralia Evo's. I have never run Tunze, but would believe them to be comparable to Vortech's.

Tunzes are great, killer flow and they can be swiveled to direct the flow, Vortechs are also a very good choice these 2 are pretty much king of the powerheads. The only reason I prefer the tunzes are the can be pointed in different directions whereas with the vortechs they are stationary. Both are expensive but as the saying goes you get what you pay for.
