I'd really like to upgrade my skimmer. Read nothing but great things about the Reef Octopus brand, so I'd love one of those. My problem is my sump is rather small (10g). I only have 6 inches x 10 inches for the skimmer section. Is there a Reef Octopus in sump skimmer that would work or do I need a hang on model? If I have to go hang-on model, I may look at other brands.

    Thoughts? Suggestions? Thanks.

It looks like Reef Octo may be too large, so I'll probably end up going with Bubble Magus. Heard alot of good things about them.

Just checked the reef Octopus site for you Mulder and cant find a model suitable for that sized tank in sump model with that footprint

Bubble Magus with the space saving skimmers which have the pump mounted under the skimmer body rather than alongside may be a better option IMO

    BUBBLE-MAGUS - Aquarium Internal skimmer|external skimmer|Dosing pump|Calcium reactor|Nitrate reductor/NO3 reductor|Filters|Turtle shell lampshade|Water monitor and controller|Additives|moonlight LED
This cone rated for tanks between 25 and 80 gallons might be ideal

    BUBBLE-MAGUS - Aquarium Internal skimmer|external skimmer|Dosing pump|Calcium reactor|Nitrate reductor/NO3 reductor|Filters|Turtle shell lampshade|Water monitor and controller|Additives|moonlight LED
or this standard shaped model should also fit in your sump area

I was in the exact same situation. I bought a Bubble-Magus NAC 3.5 and I'm very happy with its performance. The quality was top notch, very well built and designed. The only downside was that it took about 4 days to break in. Here is a picture of it after it broke in and was correctly tuned.

Thanks, that's the exact one I was looking at. If ever upgrade my sump I may get a Octo, but if the Bubble Magus is a rockin' I won't need to!

Do you have a fuge with your sump too? I always worry my fuge section is not big enough to be effectivve.

Oh I forgot, my sump water level is right at 8 inches. The Bubble Magus site says 8-10 inches so I'm hoping it's going to be OK.

    Some pictures of my sump/refugium.
My refugium is 10 x 8. The only regret I have is making the baffle separating my fuge from my return pumps too high. It's about 11in now, but 8in wouldve been perfect. So, to compensate I cracked the baffle :) and everything is ship shape, though this is highly discouraged and not ideal.
Also, I have my skimmer raised up so that the skimmer is in only 7 1/2in of water. I just found this height after some experimenting. I might lower it a bit just to see if it works any better.

Anyway, here are some pictures. It's no display sump, but it works.

Thanks, my fuge is 10x6 which is OK but I keep thinking I should have done a 20L instead and given the fuge more room. My return section could be bigger too so I could do a pump for a reactor (which will have to go in the skimmer section now--not a big deal really, but then two pumps are "fighting" for water to clean).

When Bulk Reef Supply gets more Bubble Magus skimmers I'm going to pick one up.

Yup, I wish I had a larger sump/fuge all the time. I was barely able to fit my mag 7 (feeds a dual reactor) in with my mag 9.5 return pump. Space in a 10g sump is such a commodity. I'm pretty much maxed out with what I can do.
Keep us updated on the NAC 3.5!
