thats a loaded question. everybody has different needs for a salt mix. That being said, I like oceanic. it has good calcium levels, and dissolves almost instantly.

Anybody use the H2Ocean mix? We've always used IO Reef Crystals, but we're about out and that's what the LFS recommended.

I've been perfectly happy with the IO Reef Crystals!

I like plain ol' simple and cheap instant ocean.

sure, you need to supplement it with Ca and Mg... but there isn't a mix out there that you don't have to supplement. IMO, it's cheaper to supplement more Ca/Mg with the cheaper salt than it is to supplement slightly less with the more expensive salt.

You will see every brand pop up on this thread as everyone's favorite. Me personally just switched to RC due to my calcium needs. with that being said, I used instant ocean for years and it worked pretty well. It just mixed with a lower calcium content than I liked.

Peredhil do you buy the bags or the bucket,I've been buying the bags but was thinking of trying the bucket,I figured if anything I would have an extra bucket around when it was empty.

Just get the bucket the first time. After that get bags, if possible get cardboard boxes that can be recyled and just refill your bucket for dry storage at home. If we all quit buying things that pollute the oceans and rivers they will quit making them!

Sorry, I know you where asking Peredhil, but here's my 2 cents!

This is the only salt i use. Makes the pH in my tank very stable after a water change and keeps it stable for 2 weeks. It's expensive but it holds up much better than most salts. For my 120 gallon, the big bucket, 23.3Kg lasts about 4 months. I do 40 gallon water changes every 2 weeks @ 1.026

This is the best salt mix out there.
