I dont thing that there is a "best", just what people have used and like or what other people recommend. I personaly use Salifert and sometimes Api. Luna

I have used red sea, api and sera. I like api for convience but against the lfs they are not on the money. Sera I feel you need to be a scientist and red sea is convient but The api seems better. I use a mixtures. Mostly as luna does I too use salifert.

I don't cheap out when it comes to test kits. I only use Salifert and Elos kits, which range from $20-$30 each generally. Well worth the money IMO to have peace of mind. I pick and choose between the 2 based on ease of use.

I use Salifert for everything right now. I just switched over from API and threw those out. Next time I buy NO3, I am going to do Elos. I hear it is an easier test (One liquid and one powder instead of two powders).

The Elos NO3 is very simple. I am going to use the following as I replace mine:

    NO3- Elos
    Calcium- Salifert
    Mg- Salifert
    KH- Elos
    PH- Elos
    Phosphate- Elos
Ammonia/Nitrite- Salifert, unless you have a major in chemistry then you can probably figure out the Elos Ammonia kit!! But I like to keep it simple...
Like I said I trust both so it is just a matter of which one I think is easier based on trial and error.

I use API test kits. Just avoid any test strips.
