So I'm planning on turning my 125 into reef tank and have started ordering supplies I will need. What are some suggestions for a skimmer?

I have space requirement under my stand has to be less than 22" tall and a 12"x12" footprint to fit in my wet/dry filter.

So Far I have found these fit my space reqiremnt:

    Reef Octopus NW 150 $180
    ASM G-2 Protein Skimmer $250
    PM Red Line 150 $270
    PM Bullet 1 $320 +$65 for pump
    AquaC EV-180 $340 +$65 for pump

I've heard great things about the octo's, asm's, and bullets. No personal experience though

I have the G2 and it's doing a great job for me, I've been considering the Red Line 100 for my 58g but have yet to find anyone with experience with them

Has anyone used ATI skimmers. I found the ATI Bubblemaster 200 should fit and seems like a much larger skimmer, just trying to find out if the $550 price is worth it over the ASM, Bullet, or EV-180

Ater read some reviews it seems like the ASM G-2 is a pretty good choice and it's got a pretty good price tag as well.

Everyone that gets a ATI bubble master I have talked to have been happy. If you didn't have the height restriction I would have recommended and octopus extreme, which uses the exact same pump (the meat and potatoes of all the needle wheel skimmers.) The octopus extremes are alot cheaper, but all the extremes are too tall. ATI bubble master 200 gets my vote!

The PM Bullet 1 would be more than adequate for the 125, but might not fit height-wise.
Even though it's 20" tall, the drain on it is near the base of the skimmer and that has to be above the water level in your sump or wet-dry. That means you'd have to run a low water level, probably lower than what is recommended for that wet-dry. Maybe you could just make your own sump.

The Octopus Extreme is VERY similar to the Bubblemaster at a fraction of the price. I am happy with my 200, I wish I could've gone bigger but like you I had VERY limited space.. Keep in mind if you have 22" many skimmers need quite a bit of run to remove the collection cup, some upwards to 1.5". The Octos need like .5" max. Just about everyone in my local club has an ASM of some sort and all are happy with them. I was going to use a G4 but it needs a good 1" to remove the cup and it would've been pushing it.
Also like stated some skimmers run BETTER in more water and some run poorly, many of the people I know with ASM needed to raise the skimmer body and pump up a bit to have it run better. My Octo on the otherhand needs 8-10" of water to run its best.
Go with the biggest you can afford and fit but remember its best to have a little bit of run if you need to fiddle around with the skimmer... You don't want to be so crammed you can't maintain it!!

    Happy skimmer hunting!!
