I am looking for a good protein skimmer to put on my 45 gallon FOWLR tank. I don't want to break the bank but I also don't want to buy a insufficient skimmer and wast my money.

From what I've read the AquaC Remora looks like a good choice. What about the CPR Aquatic bak pak 2? It looks like a good skimmer for cheaper

Any advice on what would be best for my tank is appreciated. Thanks!

    Do you have a sump?

I don't think the AquaC is particularly efficient for a skimmer by todays standards. I think much better than the back pack though. Do you need an HOB, or as Daniel072 asked, do you have a sump? Aquamax and Reef Octupus have some good HOB skimmers. In-sump skimmer are much better though, and can be run more aggressively, as there is less chance of a flood.

One of my favorite HOB skimmers I ever had was a coralife super skimmer. The only real issue with this skimmer was the the water level in the tank had to be VERY consistent.

    I used a Super Reef Octopus BH-100F on a 46bf and a 55 for years. Great skimmer.

What about a Reef Octopus BH-50? Would this work or should I try the BH-100 or Tunze 9002?

I would only get HOB's where the motors/pumps are submerged.
