I'm making my sump tonight. I'm rang that some people put the protein skimmer first, then return pump, then refugium. How does the water get from your refugium back to your return pump? I want to build this right. I was going to do, skimmer, refugium, return.

You tee off from the hose running from your display back to your sump and use a valve to slow down the flow into your refugium. The refugium overflows into the return section.

It will also depend on what you will do with your refugium. A DSB requires very low flow. Macro algae can use more flow.

you can also just have a small pump in your return section feed the refugium. The reason most people dont put the refugium before the return is because we want a slower flow through the refugium than the rest of the sump gets.
