Thanks all for the advice. I have a quick question though... Since the ev-120 can be used externally, does it matter how much water the pump sits in? Is it hard to achieve a good skimmate from the external ones or should I just be able to use a valve on the pump to dial in the correct flow for a good output? I found an ev-120 on craigslist for $120, they go for 300 regularly.

Thanks again. If this falls through in going to look at all of the options you all suggested, thanks again.

Yes, it will still matter. The amount of water the pump is sitting in dictates how much air can be drawn down into the venturi against the incoming water pressure. Even when running a skimmer externally the depth of the point at which the pump is sucking water our of the sump will dictate how much air can be drawn in.

Not at all. they work almost the same as an in sump skimmer. I would rely on the output valve to dial it in, but if you do put a valve on the pump side be sure it's in the plumbing between skimmer body and pump. If you put it before the pump it will only drive you nuts.

I love the Octo's but inlove with my i-TECH skimmer. Pulls major nasty, smelly, gewy gunk out.
