Just curious if any of you know of any good digital underwater cameras?

I have a Olympus Stylus Tough 3000, that we've taken to Jamaica a couple times for our snorkeling trips, and it broke on BOTH vacations, luckily the one year it broke, it happened after we took a lot of snorkeling pictures, but the next year we weren't that lucky, and it broke before we even got to get out into the ocean!! How upsetting, not to mention a vacation ruin er lol, luckily we had a cheap disposable one on back up.. but everyone knows those things suck. Well I got a trip to Hawaii in May, and am not taking my chance of having it break again, so gotta get something better. So anyone have some advice on a good camera?? Brands or what not, Looking for some quality pictures :)

I used a disposable when I went diving. Better than nothing but the colors really didnt show as well I hoped they would have. I know on Ebay you can find water proof camera cases for diving. I dont know if Id trust that when I get my Nikon D5100, but Im sure you can find reviews on the models for sale. Id look into that before dropping alot of cash on an underwater camera. If memory serves correct a 3reef member was recently talking about an underwater camera for under 100 bucks though. Hopefully they will chime in as well!

I used an underwater Kodak camera, does video too, a few weeks ago in Antigua. It did pretty well for a 40$ camera.

Hmm ... I have been happy with my Olympus Stylus Tough 8010.
I bought it specifically for snorkeling on our vacations.
Taken it to Hawaii twice and Puerto Rico once with no problems, even use it to take pics in my tank.
Maybe you just got a lemon ????

Canon D10. Zero issues. Most of the pictures in my tank thread were taken under water

I thought i got a lemon too, after the first vacation i brought it back to the store, and they gave me a brand new one. that one broke too! This time i went to bring it back, and they only refurbished it.. I mean im willing to spend like 300$ on a good one, i just not sure on brands and kinds

And you have the 8010 which is a couple steps up from mine, so maybe ill look into that one

    Thats exactly whathappend to ours!!!

First time - It would turn on and work, but as soon as id shut the door to the battery, itd shut off, Like it would only work if the battery door was open... What good is that going to do me under water???

2nd time- Working great then all of a sudden the screen went black, and that was that.

I've always just used disposables on dive trips. So so results. My next trip (which isn't in the works yet) I plan to get the Hero HD and underwater wrist strap housing. All together it's about $350. Not an expensive option if you want to shoot video as opposed to stills.
