So I hooked up a Vortech MP40W to the tank today, set night mode about an hour ago.

Any suggestions/opinions/observations on what mode would be best for a reef tank?

I have it set on short pulse, about 60% power (58g tank) right now, with a 2 second pulse width. I am not seeing a wave/surge form yet.

I have mine set on reef crest mode and the slave pump set to anti-synch. Then i dialed the flow rate back just a tad from full blast. That was on a 90 gallon so you may set it up a bit different since you are only running one.

Dasco, for what they are the $75 more than I would spend on a pair or 3 in-tank PH's and a decent wave maker controller, they seem worth it.

I'll try crested reef mode tomorrow, see if I like it.

Oh, and in a 58g tank, 100% power (>3000gph) throws LR around the tank.

Yeah it took some careful placement to get them to not throw up a sand storm in the 90 so i would assume you would dial it back a bit more for your tank :)

I have one on a 215 on reefcrest as well...100% power...just reaches the other side of 6 feet with water current. I have one awaiting my 40 breeder and also plan on using the reef crest mode....prolly only 30-40 percent power.
