hey guys im attaching a sump to my nano for growing cheato, flame and grape. the problem is i dont have a divider (as my friend is gifting me the tank) but im planning to cover the return with undergravel filter plates. will that be ok? or should i get the dividers made? also can i grow cheato in a normal tank and not a sump? i have a 5700K t5ho will that do the job? i also have a spare 10w white led floodlight.

A sump and a refugium are separate. Do you plan of a combination for the two? Macro algae can be grown in anything given the right conditions. What exactly is it your wanting to add to your tank?

I would just build the baffles they are cheap and easy to make plus they will remove any micro bubbles before they get to the display. I have never seen anyone covering the return with the filter plates but I'm sure it would work but I would not do I think its best that they are separate so you have space for equipment in your sump and you have your refugium in another place. Finally, no you will not want to grow Chaeto in the display it does not attach to anything so it just floats around and would get in the way, Chaeto is best left to the refugium oh and I would not recommend growing grape Caulerpa.

You can see my 'chaeto basket' in my sump near the end of my DT vid in my sig.

That should give you some ideas maybe?
