I get my Helfrichi's Firefish on wednesday. I won't be home to acclimate so my mom is going to do it. What is the best way to acclimate a fish after shipping, i got it from liveaquria. I don't have a way to drip acclimate.

Should i just have her float the bag for 15 minutes then put the fish in the tank? I was going to haver her follow liveaquaria's advice on foat acclimation. But with this fish being a know jumper i worry about the constant opening of the bag to add water.

What should i have her do?

You're not going to home at all? If you will be home within a reasonable amount of time, I'd say just have her float the bag. Maybe open it up to get some air in there.

With My firefish, All i did was Float for 20, then Add water into the bag with a small glass from the DT. Just a little bit every few minutes. To help the ph adjust for the fish. Id close the bag after each addition of water. But maybe someone might have a better idea if your worried about it jumping out on your mom.

Assuming your LFS has ideal water such as your tank that the fish is going in, There's not a huge difference. (still should acclimate it properly)

The main thing with shipping a fish, the PH in the fish's bag drops because of temp and no air flow to stabilize it. Hence the big deal on slowly acclimating your fish to the water it will be living in.

Mix up some fresh SW to have on hand.I put the fish in the tank and float about 20 min. then I put them in a bucket. then I use a 1/4" air line and slowly drip DT water in to the bucket for about 1 hr. I then put the fish in the tank with the lights off. I use the Fresh SW to replace the water I took out of the tank.

i would prefer for her to do this as it seems the easiest, but i don't have anything to drip acclimate

IMO, depends on how long it takes to ship them.

overnight - I'd do the add a shot to the bag every 15 min routine until you double the water volume twice in the bag (I always pour most out to begin with to use less water).

2 days... - probably still do the bag thing

3 days:eek: I'd turn off the lights, float for 20 minutes and dump him in.
