I have no ATO and tested my salinity today at 1.029!! Way too high and my leathers are shriveled I think because of this. I have acrylic lids over the tank but am running two heaters currently to maintain 79 degrees. Ambient air in the room gets as low as 60 degrees. It's something I can't control because I rent. Evap. Really isn't noticeable but my salinity shows otherwise. A week ago it was 1.027 where I keep it normally. No changes the entire week other than my normal doses of Alk and Ca. Mg is About 1450 ppm. Don't want to disrupt things in an abrupt manner. What's the best way/amount I can add fresh R.O. ? I have about 1 1/2 gallons of it ready right now already set to the DT temp. Thanks.

Pull out a gallon and a half of water from the tank and use cups to slowly add the water, might be slow but it's not much of a disrupter

You ATO would be the best way as it slowly adds it. If you have a sump, I just pour some in there away from my return pump so it get mixed by the time it reaches it. Unless you have a very small tank or are adding a lot of fresh water, I would worry about it too much. Keep in mind though that you should take out some salt water then add the fresh. If not, it will just evaporate and you will be in the same position later.

Thanks. Can't add a tube nem with an SG of 1.029 now can I !!

As for the other Response, NO ATO. Also, don't have a sump. Think I should re-adjust my sig. to reflect this so people don't assume.

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
Perhaps lower the display SG to 1.025 or even a little lower, so you do not get to the high end so quickly. What are you using to measure the SG?

i add it by filling a bucket and syphoning it with air tubing to the main tank filters or sump its easy and it trickles in slow enough to mix in

That's something I am definitely considering. Using a Sybon refractometer. It has auto temp.adjust. I let it sit for 20 minutes before noting my reading.
