I use a siphon tube to remove water, 20%, I like the ability to gently vacuum the sand.
Then j use the maxijet and tubing rig to refill.

Siphoning is easy and no equipment needed if you have the room to elevate the bucket. I put on some vinyl tubing on the clear tubing so it sucks from the bottom and gets the most out of the siphon - no need to pour the rest in manually or it pop out and splash the floor.

Use a clip for the other side so that doesn't fall out either hehe

In my 100 gal reef tank I use airline tubing and siphon the water into the first chamber of the sump that way it mixes in before it hits the DT.

In my mantis tank that does not have a sump, I use an aqualifter to pump the water into the HOB filter, so it some what mixes in before it hits the tank and if nothing else its in a high flow area.

    Thanks.

I rigged up the small 165gph pump that came with my reactor with 5/8th's hose and a TLF ball valve for adjusting flow. Going to empty my new water bucket in that manner at the slowest rate possible and point the hose in front of one of my powerheads for some dispersion.

I've been doing slow water changes with airline tubing for years. Easy enough on most tanks to fill a 5 gallon bucket of water and sit it on top of the tank and let the water gravity feed into the tank.

I do the same thing for an ATO and connect the end to a mechanical float switch. Keeps my water level rock steady and no pumps to fail. If you size the ato container appropriately for your water volume and use airline tubing even if the float valve fails it's a gradual decrease in sg and there's very little chance of killing anything in the tank.
