I evap about 5 gallons in a week. Evaporation indicates gas exchange as far as I know which is a good thing. You can cut down on it but glass covers on the tank and stuff, but you will also be decreasing dissolved oxygen in the tank most likely also.

Yeah, short of a whole house humidifier, anything you do to decrease evaporation will decrease gas exchange, which can be problematic.... An ATO, storage containers for extra RO/DI and a high gpd RO/DI unit, so you can make water quickly, is about the best you can do.

Walmart, get the RO/DI bottled water .85 cents/gallon until you get the RO/DI unit.

I loose just as much if not more water.

Keep the house temperature closer to the tank temp. Lower temps cause greater evaporation.

Or keep the tank temperature closer to the house temperature. I lowered mine to 74 for this reason and evaporation is cut in half.

When I upgraded to LED my evap (5 gallons every 3 days) dropped down to 2.5 gallons every 1.5 weeks.
