I have a salinity problem in that of my DT is too low (1.023). My plan was to mix a concentrated batch of saltwater at around 1.030 or so and have that on a siphoned gravity fed drip for smoother acclimation. All the while taking salinity measurements every couple hours. The cause of the low salinity was my fault in not having calibrated my refractometer in a long time. Now that it's been calibrated I discovered the salinity of the DT is in fact low.

I use ESV's salt batch. Is it enough having the powerhead in the 5 gallon bucket I use for mixing to oxygenate or should I supplement with some sort of air stone? Remember it's going to be introduced slowly, not just dumping the bucket in. TIA

Can you get something like an air stone in there?

If it's the ESV 4 part salt mix, you can use it very soon after making it, I think an hour once you get the temp up. It mixes very quickly and clear.

That isnt low enough to start a panic, mix high level water & all that type stuff. You could start a back and forth swing and add a whole nother level to things, and a waste of salt that probably wasnt free. Instead of doing your weekly water change, dont take any out & just add normal sq water, with evaporation it will balance out.

+1 I'd just add a little salt to your top offs or up ur WC's salinity a bit and bump it up over the next week or so!

ESV's salt, as far as I know it, is nothing but the 4 part mix. I've used it exclusively in my tank since the beginning. While it does mix clear, directions still warn of it's immediate usage based upon sufficient oxygen....just not sure exactly on how that's accomplished.

I don't think I'm panicking yet!!... I must admit I've NEVER calibrated my refractometer since the beginning of my tank. I've lost many SPS along the way and to finally figure out that a component is blatantly out of whack is something I'd like to remedy in a fairly short time. If it were Alk, for instance, obviously I'd go as slow as possible. I don't think a trip from 1.023-1.026 in a 24 hour period(or more) will do any damage. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

While ESV's salt mix set-up accounts for various concentrations, I still don't have an ATO that I could implement them into. I'm also not performing water changes for the next two weeks as I'm Dosing waste-away and want to keep as much of it in the water column as possible. It's working well :)! Top-off with concentrated SW seems to be my only option at this point.
