In all honestly, its VERY hard to avoid a sand storm. Every tank i have setup, or helped setup at the fishstore, there has always been some type of storm. To avoid a major one, you can put the sand in some type of water jug or a cup and just cover your hand so it doesnt get stirred up by the water, and just slowly empty it on the bottom. The only problem i have doing this, is that i am not a patient person, i have never cycled a tank(Yet i have been very succseful in all my tank knock on wood..haha) and it takes a long time, especially a larger tank like 75g.

But the rinsing part, i have never done that..the sand i work with is already live and doesnt need to be rinsed.

yeah I remember some one showing me a trick to add extra sand into your tank I might just have to try that but on a lot larger scale because I am normally not that patient either haha :D

Cut several small pin size holes in the bottom of the bag, run water through the bag until the water runs clear. Then put just the bottom of the bag in the tank and shake it and all of the clean debris-free sand will fall into the tank without causing the great dust bowl of 2012.
