Quite well. The controller contains a small battery to keep the Real Time Clock up to date when the power goes out. Also with the latest libraries, all the settings you program into the controller (light on/off tmes - heater settings - ato - wavemaker etc...) will get stored in the memory on board. So when the controller starts back up it has the correct time and your previous settings.

Excellent, that is great. I was subscribed to ReefAngel Google Group and was amazed by the activity. I really feel that this controller will be a catalyst for many great things in the future.

One Question. is the Reef Angel controllable from the main head unit, or more of what im trying to say, is can i use the head unit with the demo software to change variables such as temp. parameters for turning on an off outlets, ect.

I would love the ability to customize the system and monitor everything from my computer, but i'm a little worried about out of box usability.

    Yes, absolutely.

Out of the box the controller will easily allow you to customize your wavemakers, lights, heater, fans etc.. Just using the controller and nothing else. Pretty much like any other controller you can purchase. Take a look at my unboxing/gutting of the whole setup here. There's some pictures of what the menus look like and should give you a good idea of what you can do right away.

The nice thing about the Angel however, is it also gives you the ability to customize the software for your particular needs. There's an active Google Groups community that has been working on new "firmware" updates you can load onto the controller pretty easily. Like I mentioned, Curt's latest Beta4 libraries can be downloaded for free of course and easily uploaded onto your controller. The latest update extends the functionality and usability of the Angel and I would definitely recommend just updating it as soon as you get it. You get more functions and features. Just let me know if you need any help and I can walk you through it.

I'm looking into controllers and am happy you've done all this great work for this controller as it's less expensive and should I go with this one I'd be interested in the apps for it....love the google updates for it.

Great job buddy. I just have one question? Have you heard of any additional support to control 2 or more AC outlet boxes? No one had gotten back to me on this. The reason for this in my use is that my DT is in my theater room & my sump/refuge is in my fish room in my walkout basement. This is the primary reason why I have not bought one yet. I'm not sure if this controller is unable to do this & another vesion that they plan to release will..

Cool man, I think you'll enjoy it.

Thanks SkyFire, I think you'll enjoy the latest round of development I've done on the software. It's much more interactive and nicer to look at. If you're interested in beta testing, just let me know ;)

CJ, For now the controller only supports the 8 relay box included in the package, this is a limitation of the controller board from what I understand. I caught wind of the possibility of a next generation controller with more on board memory/support for more relays from the Google Group, but not anytime soon since this version just came out and still building up steam.

I've made some pretty good progress on the client this past week. A lot time was spent reworking the user interface and providing a more interactive graphing experience for the user.

    The latest includes:

    - Updated UI
    - View 24hour, 1Week, 2Week, 1Month data in graph/grid.
    - Better near real-time graphing.
    - View parameter details on graph by hovering over datapoint.
    - The 2D graph is now zoomable and scrollable.
    - Introduction of 3D graphing
    - Change 3D graph view along X-Axis, Y-Axis and control 3D perspective.
    - Save 2D/3D graphs to local computer as Jpeg, Gif or Bmp
    - Introduction of datagrid displays historical from selected time intervals.

I used some new screen capture software so check this one should come out a lot better. Definitely switch to 720P. Also sorry it starts off a little slow...

There's still some minor work to be done on the 3D grid. Also some bug fixes and error handling still has to be done. For now I'm going to leave the client one way. That is, it is only going to receive and display the data from the controller. I still need to work out a good way to send the controller relay commands. I plan on including this functionality in the next beta.
