Im looking at the Aquac EV-120 and the Tunze Doc 9005. I have a 20 gallon sump and a 75 gallon DT. Im leaning towards the aquac but i was going to see how loud it is? Which one would you guys recommend. Any input will help.

Since I have the AquaC EV180 and have never used the Tunze, my opinion is going to be bias. But I will say this, Tunze have great reviews. Which ever one your wallet can afford.

Its as quiet as a mouse. The only time that it makes a noise is when the pump turns on, after that you cant hear a thing. I have on skimmer on a timer, thats why you can hear the pump turn on.

Out of curiosity, why do you run your skimmer part time? I read a few posts on this and other forums and I believe it is so you don't take out too much of the "good stuff". I am not sure about that premise, what is your reasoning.

    I run it P/T b/c of a few reasons.

    1. I dose Reef solution and Marine Snow every other day in the morning. If the skimmer where to be on 24/7, the tank would not benefit from it and I would be wasting my money. My skimmer runs from 11am to 11pm. I normally dose at 5am, so it gives my tank 6 hrs to "soak-up" benefits.

    2. Keeping your water "too clean" isnt a good thing either(IMO). Your corals kind of starve.

    3. Saves a little of electricity.

    4. Prolongs the life of the pump too.
