    Do you have a dremel?

The acan addict I know uses a diamond tipped band saw, which coincedentally he is also a dealer in them.
A dremel with a diamond tipped cutting attachment would work but it is easier to move the whole colony THROUGH the blade on the band saw than it is to follow the colony walls with a dremel and your hand. I can picture someone that hasn't cut a huge colony before literally tearing that beautiful thing up with the slip of a hand. Thats honestly why I have held back from buying huge colonies and fragging them up, without a bandsaw I am scared I would destroy it or damage it pretty bad.
I know there are pics/vids of Anthony Calfo fragging acans with a dremel but the piece was small and easy to deal with.

What kind of acan is it...lordhowensis, echinata, bowerbanki....? The type will determine the fragability of it. Lords are FAR easier to frag then say an echinata which has almost shared corallite walls.

Good luck and keep us posted!

I believe you could get away with a dremel, depending on how big the colony is. You may have some polyps die, but if you are careful, you should be ok. Whatever you do, don't use a hammer and chisel. That is bad news, you will most likely end of cracking the skeleton to several polyps killing them, and the rock never splits where you want it to.
