BEWARE: Olin Ross white van speaker salesmen

Last week I got an email from the family skeptic (my aunt). It was a list of all the latest scams going on. One caught my eye about guys going around selling home theater systems out of their mini-vans. I read about it and, oddly enough, came across them a few days later in Bowling Green, KY. My co-worker and I were on our way back to Alabama from Sheboygan, WI. We stopped for gas and this man and a woman excitedly approached us asking us if we were interested in a home theater system. I immediately knew it was them. I whispered to the guy I was with to just go along with the BS they were feeding us. I'm not going to lie..this guy was GOOD! Had I not known who he was I probably would have bought the speakers.

"We just got done making a delivery and we have a few extras. We'd rather just sell them on the side and make some extra cash than return them to our boss." etc..

They will give you receipts..they have vendors licenses..name tags..they're legit.

"This is a $2500 system..i'll give it to you for 600. 1000 watts..Built in amp..*blah blah blah*"

He showed us catalogs with the MSRP..told me "buy me a few beers next time you're in town!"

I talked him down to 300. Then i said.."ya know what? i'll give you 10 because i know these speakers are made in china..worth around 90 bucks..and are of terrible quality. Your company is made up..these catalogs are fake..you have a fake website with all your fake products in it."

He didn't say a word and jumped in his Kia and took off. Once we got back on the road i googled OLIN ROSS and found out that this has been happening in California..Pennsylvania..everywhere. So if you see them..go talk to them! they really are damn good salesmen!! And it's pretty funny once you bust them. People have talked about calling the police on them, but what they are doing is completely legal...it's just really low.

We were doing environmental testing (testing smoke stacks) at a plant there.

I have been in the environmental related field for the last several years. Well, until January...

 

They have been doing that in Miami for a while now! K for the heads up though.

 

This scam has been running for about 12 years that I know of. Always the same rap.
