I just brought home a Bicolor Angelfish for my 29g Nano Cube, it was an impulse buy because he is so beautiful and my LFS guy said he would be a good choice for the size of my tank.
However now I am reading they are hard to aclimate and get to eat and that they are notoriusly short lived.
Does anyone have any good news to say about these fish?:-/

Tank is about 2 mons, used cured liverock and bottled salt water, no cycle was neccessary. I am not concerned with his size, I only have a six line wrasse right now and no corrals. I am more concerned with the reports of this fish being short lived and wanted to know what other's experience with him might be.

I wouldn't put any kind of angel in a 29.

I was told by my LFS that bicolors are not a good choice for a beginner, and also that angels should be in larger tanks because they are very active. Also, the tank should be more established before introducing an angel because they need lots of organisms to pick off the live rock, etc. I don't know anything about the life span.

See if you can trade him in for something more suitable for your 29.

the reason i ask of how old the tank is is because the angel is a grazer. it will feed off of algae aand sponges growing on the rock and sand. most young tanks do not have enough to sustain a demanding fish.

people have a hard time acclimating the fish to feeding which is why it gets the rep of poor survival. get some nori(seaweed) tie it to a small piece of live rock and hopefully the angel finds it. also meaty foods with spirulina will do well. may take a week to get feeding.

there is also a chance of this fish nipping at corals when you do get some. my angel only nips at my anthelia

as for the cycle which you say was not necessary..... i dunno i'll let someone else take this one

Well a bicolor isn't to bad in a 29 ime... Although I wouldn't recommend it..
And from short lived, yes they don't live very long but it's not like it's going to die tomorrow. ** knock on wood**

I would recommend to trade it in for another fish that won't just survive but thrive in your aquarium. Those are just my 2cents.
What do you mean by no cycle was nessesary? Quite didn't get that.. Did you use an established tank water? And rocks? Otherwise it is nessesary to cycle.

i agree with elweshomayor. size of the tank is not bad being its pygmy angel but age of the tank.maturity of the tank.

i have a potters angel in my 29g and is about an 1.5 inches. and had him for nearly 2 years.

i would also think twice about the fish store you are buying from

Tank was set with cured liverock and bottled salt water, that was why cycle was short. Tank sat for a month with just a electic blue crab and 2 peppermint shrimp. Than i introduced the 6 line wrasse, and now 2 weeks later the Bicolor darf angle.
    Been taking it slow.
