What I would do it add 1/2 inch to each side of the upper, or just re-do that part, and then add 1/2 wood ferring strips on the sides of the rest so its even when you cover it with wood. You'll never see it when its done.
    Nice design by the way!

I have to have this to the powder coater tomorrow at noon, and everything as far as outside dimensions are pretty solid, I did measure them correct :) So changing the stand is out, so I really need to change the way I mount the lights. I have been looking for "pendant mounting" but everything comes with the bulb base and ballast, I need more of a "retro fit" style pendant.

    Thanks,
    Scott

Your looking for reflectors then? you could just rip the guts out of the fixture and drill holes.
    but heres reflectors

honestly I don't think removing the casing will solve your problem, since the VHO look just as long as the case.

You are correct the VHO's are 48" plus the end caps but I can drop those lower in the canopy away from the frames and Keep the hot MH's up high, I believe you are right I imagine that is the road I am going to go down.

    Thanks,
    Scott

OK I have the whole fixture torn apart, and I think we can just cut some out of the middle of it to make it work. Obviously the 48" VHO bulbs will not go back in once we do this. So me not being very smart about lighting, the two VHO's are driven by a PFO Lighting balast box that has two small ballast in it, can I run 36" bulbs from this balast? Or will I just need to run my 48" bulbs outside of the housing?

    Thanks,
    Scott

I don't think so, well I probably wouldn't size you ballast puts out 110 watts and the bulbs are made to use 95 watts. although most ballast do have some play room.

Perhaps I'm just unsettled about putting more power in to a VHO light, which is already 3x NO.

Do as you were thinking, cut out the center and mount your VHO on the exterior of the fixture with some metal brackets to lower them.;)

Cool the 48's will get mounted in the Canopy, and the housing for the MH's will get shorter.

    Thanks Guys, I appreciate it.
