Bio balls in a HOB filter

    i have a emporer 400 filter on my 29...and a skimmer....but my filter 400 doesent do anything.besides clearing the water up a tad tad tad bit....what are your opinions on putting some bio balls in the back of the filter would that work?

    I guess it depends on if it is a reef tank or FOLWR? If reef I would not use unless you are very deligent in cleaning them on a regular basis. If left alone they can create nitrate issues for you. If you have that kind of room you could put some live rock chunks in and avoid the issue.

    Doesn't the emperor 400 have dual bio wheels? Not sure if you are using them but I have heard they work decent. I have the Emperor 280 and have chunks of LR in mine and it works well. I just used the plastic case for the second chamber and put the rocks in a bag and placed in the filter. It is not much additional filtration but more if better IMO :)
