What do you mean cutting some of and leaving some on? Please explain and I will help you figure it out.

if you have white day lights and seperate actinic (blue/purple) light with 2 cords. put the actinics on first then white lights on 1.5 hours after that, then after 7-8 hours turn whites off. then 1.5 hours after that turn actinics off.

    example.

    9am turn on actinics
    10:30am turn on day lights
    6:30pm turn off day lights
    8pm turn off antinics

if your unit came with LED moonlights you can just leave them on 24/7 or turn on at 8pm and off at 9am..

    timers are recommend.

I always liked the looks of those 20g-35g+ biocubes, everything you need in a box.. nice and simple.

Welcome 2 3reef. Wish you luck with your cube. I have 2 and I love-em. I'd get one of those power strips with the timer on both ends. This way as soon as your actinic lights go out, your lunar kick on, and vice-versa. It also has color coded sockets.
