While I do sympathize with pink4miss's experience I will not condone their use for all. There are too many variables to consider...total system volume, stocking, feeding regimens, top-off water/phosphate additions, skimming efficiency, etc. Along with the pellet introduction volume, tumble rate and PO4/NO3 levels upon introduction.

I feel biopellet usage is still in it's infancy much like LED's. It will take time and the experience from users to determine what works and what doesn't. It would be beneficial if someone who had the means took the time to prove the effect of BP's on ORP...for now it's nothing but conjecture.

This plus the experience of those like Vinny and myself is more then enough for me.

I love when people say "still in its infancy" regarding LEDS, it mostly just means not ready for a change. Kind of like the people who hated Hondas when they first came out and used terms like "unproven" and "foreign". Those care are still running and were much more efficient then their peers. Don't get me wrong, I drive a ford truck and have a mustang in the garage but that doesn;t mean a honda isn;t better at many things (gas mileage). The results over years of people keeping coral under LEDs is simply phenomenal. what exactly is supposed to happen after 2 years of successful growth under Leds? I get that they are still more expensive then they will be (Mr. Bill has a good argument here) but what are they supposed to do that is detrimental to your coral?

    off topic, sorry

Perhaps "still in it's infancy" was the wrong term to use. I've used LED since nearly the beginning of my tank so I have no argument regarding their ability to grow coral. Its simply a matter of opinion and LED's don't have the years of tried and trued usage that MH's and T5's do.

Back on topic, what can bio-pellets do that are detrimental to coral? There are positives and negatives to just about anything in regards to reefkeeping...think about it

Besides, since BP's effect on ORP has been the blame. I'd like to see this genuinely proven. I don't have the means or I'd be a candidate.

I actually meant leds on the "detrimental" comment. I am curious about the orp as well.

Well then...that's a different topic for discussion isn't it.

Let's keep this true to the OP question at hand.
