    Now that I have had this tank running for 5 months and have had my wet/dry going can I take the hang on filter with the bio wheels off the tank and do away with it or not. I am changing stands next weekend, so I have to drain it anyway.

    yes but you may want to keep it up incase you ever have to setup a hospital tank.
